 Disc? or Plow? or What?

Guys,
I have read alot and could not find my answer so I guess I just need to ask it.

I am working on my gun range and doing quite well and need to loosen up several acers of dirt to make using a dozer much easier and faster to work.
I have a JD 4710 (48 h to engine).
What is the best implement to use?

Thanks guys.

Morning Len I would find it very hard to believe that a dozer in good condition (good cutters, good grousers, etc) and an experienced operator would have any benefit from a small tractor pre working the soil. In heavy baked clay, shale or boulders a large scarfier might be in order and you'll see them on the BIG machines.

The closest you can get is a box scraper with the scafier teeth or a sub soiler shank. However if your ground is like that I'm not sure a compact is gonna pull it at depth. It takes power and weight to work efficently.

PS I've looked at your site but guess I did not see the range. I used to shoot High power siliouette years ago still have the "tools" but not the time to stay competive.

Harvey

I did not think about the compact tractor part.
Last time we were using a D3 and a pretty big tractor to pull a disc.
It seemed to make the dozer push very easily. The dozer did not have a ripper on it.
I planned on renting another D3 and using my compactor this time.
I have back dirt that gets pretty hard in the summer..

Well if you are anywhere near Dallas come on out, we have a 300 yard range, it is not too big but it is there. Since I got that 4710 the range has been getting better and better, wish I had got it a long time ago instead of trying to rent all the time.
Thanks,

Len Baxley
PS: There is a map in the web site.
