 3 or 4 bottoms for TD5050

Hi there,

I'm thinking of getting 4 bottoms plow for TD5050.
Fields have been farmed before, loamy soil.
Some fields have not been farmed in 30-40 years.

Would TD5050 pull 4 bottoms (16"Wink yeah right plow?
Or should I get 3 bottoms to save some money.

Peter_vii,

They figure about 10 horses are required per plow share. Your tractor should be able to handle a 4 bottom plow, but you'll be working it to death. You'll constantly be adjusting the depth to maintain engine rpms.

I think you'd be way better off with a 3-bottom plow. Drop it in and go. No hastles or adjustments necessary. A 3-bottom plow will make a day in the field a whole lot more enjoyable.

Joel

My thoughts: 16" or 14" 3-16's or 4-14's. The tractor is light. You have to get that HP to the ground to pull.

How efficient do you need to be? Is it a 4X4? How many acres? How often you gonna plow?

I like to see the soil roll off the molboards, not get to the end and fall back in furrow. You need an efficient speed especially if you are rolling sod uphill.

I'd hire a neighbor. Trade some time out.

Or talk to your equipment dealer who knows your soil conditions and what you need to do. Hard sticky soil will kill HP and traction.
