If it were 4WD it would handle a loader, but it would not do much. A tractor as small as a 655 and only 2 wheel drive would maybe scoop a little loose dirt but that would be it. Another plus about a 4WD is the front axle of a 4WD is a lot stronger than the 2WD.

Joe,I have a Kubota B7300 with 4wd and loader. I use the loader frequently for transport of stone, mulch and brush. For these tasks I frequently do not need the 4wd and do it in 2wd. I am not familiar with the 655 but if you have at least a lockup rearend(I DO use this feature on the Kubota instead of 4wd), good turf bar or ag tires and a low range gear you could get quite a lot of use out of the loader. Plus you can't do a whole lot of serious digging anyway with a low hp loader(even using 4wd).A suggestion. See if you can find a loader that could fit several models(maybe by just modifying the mount). If you untimately decide to move up a little you might be able to reuse the loader. The loader will not add much value to a 2wd for resale and it would be nice to keep it and not loose the investment. Especially look at after-market loaders(like Woods, or kit units, like the CadPlan loaders).Good luck.

Sure it's big enough to do valuable work. It would be nicer for digging intodirt and sand piles if it had 4wd, but you will do lots with 2wd. Much of what isdone with a loader is to move things from place to place. Sort of a combination wheelbarrow and work platform. Get a good weight box on the tractor or else carry a box scraper with additional weight. Your main problem will be goingup or down hilly gravel roads with all the weight on the front wheels - whichhave neither drive nor brakes..... I'd but the smallest loader that will fit. The 655 often gives you a choiceof two size options. Roger L
