Why 3 holes for center link on 3pt. hitch?

I've been wondering why there are 3 different attachment holes for the center link pin on 3 point hitch. Do you need to use a different hole for different implements. On a similar subject, I've been having trouble getting my bush hog adjusted to ride properly. The skids keep wanting to dig into the ground. Any suggestions?

The 3 holes change the balance of the tractor with regards to the geometry of the 3pth,it only really applies to "ground-bearing" operations, i.e., plowing, tilling, disc work, but also is very important with lifting heavy implements, read your owners manual, or a friends if you don't have one, every compact is the same.

Adjust the tail wheel of the Bush-hog to a higher ( LESS ground clearance ) setting, and lift the front with 3pth, the "body" of the mower should sit LEVEL with the ground, at the height you wish to CUT at. Good luck.

Not to dispute what Ted said, but..I read somewhere to set the front of the rotary cutter slightly lower than the rear (like 1" or so). That way, the material isn't cut twice, putting less strain on the machine and giving better fuel economy.Just FYI

Why 3 holes for center link on 3pt. hitch?

I have a JD750 with a 4' Landpride Bushog. My instruction manual for the bushog shows two sets of hole locations for the two horiz. pins that the side draft links attach to. It says to use one set of holes for larger tractors, or move the pins to another set of holes for smaller tractors. I can't remember which was which as I am at work, but your bushog maye have this on it. It helps prevent the problem you are having, I think. Check it out.Keith

THE BUSH HOG SHOULD BE SLIGHTLY LOWER IN THE FRONT.I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN TOLD THAT OBJECTS WILL NOT BE THROWN AT THE OPERATOR (AS BAD). THE 3 HOLES CONTROL THE DRAFT OF YOUR LIFT. THI S IS MAINLY USED FOR PLOWING TO TRANSFER THE WEIGHT. THE BOTTOM HOLE SHOULD BE USED ON ANY HEAVY IMPLEMENT. THE MANUAL SHOULD EXPLAIN IT BETTER.
