 4100 Backhoe

While many have mentioned JD does NOT make a backhoe for the 4100,I wonder if any knows of another company that does?My local dealer said that some company out there probably does.He heard of possible problems putting a backhoe on a 4100 but would not sayit was a DEFINITE problem as he has not talked with anyone that has tried.

 4100 Backhoe

What does come up is that the warranty is voided by the use of a backhoe. The tractor is not designed for the rigors of heavy digging that a contractor woulddo with it. And supposedly, JD does not want something if it will not hold upto what a contractor will do.

 4100 Backhoe

I handle a line of backhoes that makes one for a JD4100. It requires a frame mount kit because the tractor frame must be to light. It has a 6'6" dig depth. For more info feel free to contact me by e-mail

 4100 Backhoe

The only one I have heard of that put a backhoe on a 4100 was a guy that posted a while back over on machinery forum. He bent the frame of the tractor. He said he did not abuse the machine, only used it normally. Since he purchaced the hoe and tractor at the same time the dealer covered him and he got his money back. Since a hoe was important to him, he bought another brand of tractor. Some have claimed the frame was defective, but the way it failed indicated it just is not strong enough. The frame did not crack or break at a defective area, it just plain bent over a large span. This indicates it was not strong enough for the loads it recieved. You will be taking a big risk by using a hoe on the machine. A new frame and the labor to install it is not cheap.

 4100 Backhoe

John Deere said the frame was defective. Anyhow who in their right mind would mount a backhoe without a subframe on a tractor that small. I have heard of kubotas with similiearly mounted backhoes where the frame not only bent but the tractor broke in two.

 4100 Backhoe

Folks in their right minds buy 3ph backhoes for compacts every day. They do it for reasons of economy, and the perception of easier on/off and uses of the 3ph for other items. If most of them learned how to mount/dismount a subframe unit properly, and bought a combination that did not require removing the 3point arms, they would be as well off.

 4100 Backhoe

Tractor broke in two? Over loading a steel frame would cause it to bend but not break in two unless it was bent back and forth repeatedly. The steel could fatigue and crack and then break, but it sure seems the operator should detect serious problems before a frame would break in two. This would be true for any brand tractor. Do you have first hand experience or is this just something you heard? Not trying to promote one brand over another, but since you started the comparison, Kubota does makes subframes for all their tractors that need one to attach a hoe. JD does not make a subframe for the 4100 and does not recomend a hoe for it. That should say something. The 4100 is a fine machine, but if your tasks include backhoe work, it would be wise to look at another machine of whatever color including green.

I own a JD4100. NOWHERE in the warranty does it say that the warranty is voided if a backhoe is installed on the tractor. This is pure gossip that began as a conjecture and spread until now everyone thinks it is a fact. My advice. Get a copy of the JD4100 warranty and read it for yourself.
