 Plastic body

I am comparing JD and NH in the 30 hp range and wondered what people think about the hard plastic bodies of the NH tractors. How long has NH been using plastic? In other words, how do these tractors hold up and look after a few years? Even JD has gone cheap on the sheet metal, though, compared to the older versions.

I saw a NH fender that was hit by an implement. It looked fiberglass to me. Fiberglass and metal both have their pros and cons. I wouldn't let that sway me one way or another. There are more important issues I think.

The NH is probably fiber reinforced plastic, but they are not fiber glass with polyesters phenolic cure resins.
It seems to me that few of us are using our pickup beds with out a plastic liner or plastic coating. GM is advertising a composite bed as an expensive option.
I am not sure that there is a cost consideration except that there is less painting required.
I keep thinking about when the plastic was first introduced on the Husky Chain saws. As a demo to convince people that it was better the sales agent took the saw and tossed it across the parking lot. After retrieving it with no damage no one thought they could do the same with the old Al saw.
Despite this its performance depends on the materials and engineering. Unfortunately not as many of us can judge this vs a metal panel.
