 TC29D VS TC33D

Hello All,

Let me first state that I am new to this board so if this question has been asked I am sorry but.... I have a TC29D and was just wondering how much more power the TC33D has, I understand there is 5 more HP with the TC33 but does it make a huge difference? Just looking for some insight.

Thanks,

Mike

 TC29D VS TC33D

I can tell you about the TC33D versus the 1630 (predecessor to the TC29D I think).

My brother bought his 1630 new with 60" mid-mount mower. Very nice tractor, and he still has it. Last year, we also bought a TC33D, this time with the larger 72" mid-mount mower.

We haven't done any pulling contests, but the TC33D handles the 72" mower with about the same ease, under the same conditions, as the 1630 does with the 60" mower.

Interestingly also, the TC33D engine runs a bit more smoothly and is a bit quieter than the 1630. Otherwise, the tractors drive and handle identically.

It's frequently observed that there are few things a small tractor can't do that a larger one can, but smaller ones just take longer. Here's some perspective for that idea.

Say that two tractors mow at 5-mph ground speed. One has a 5' mower and the other a 6'. The larger mower is cutting one sq. ft. more than the smaller mower for every foot traveled. An 8-hour day traveling at 5mph covers 40 miles. A strip 1' x 40 miles is almost 5 acres, although my arithmetic is sometimes suspect.

I suppose 5-acres is nothing to sneeze at but whether it's important or not really is determined by how much time the operator has. I'm not particularly time-bound, but for a person haying, that 5-acres could make the difference between whether there's a hay crop or not. Of course, in the real world a 1' wider mower may not cut exactly 1' more and people don't generally work 40 mile strips. Tractors have to turn-around, and larger ones take longer to maneuver.

You can always throttle back the 33, if you dont need the power. I had to trade a new tc25 with 20hrs in on a 33 beacause the 25 couldn't pull the hills in hydro-range II. Dealer said mow in range I, I responded that I didnt spend $20,000 on a lawnmower to mow at 1.8mph or whatever it is. I mow 10ac. with 60in mid mower and pull 2 60in wing mowers.Takes about 2 hrs in IInd.

Mike, its my understanding that the 29D is a 25D with an injection boost.. Ihave the 29D wish I would have got the 33.. don't get me wrong the 29D is a tough machine.. But the 33D gives you that little extra... good luck, Shawn

There is no such thing as too much fun or too much HORSEPOWER. More is better than not enough.
