 TC40D 16La Loader bucket questions.

I am in the process of purchasing a TC40D with a loader. I am going to get the HD bucket, but my question is are the bucket teeth worth the added price? I am wanting to be able to do some earth moving, not excessive, but I do want to be able to dig into the ground when needed. I also want to have the flat bucket edge for other task that don't require digging i.e snow pile removal etc. Does anyone have experience the the bucket options for the TC series NH's?Any input is appreciated.

 TC40D 16La Loader bucket questions.

Mark, for me the removable toothbar was worth the $400 I paid for it. I also have a HD bucket on my 4400, and the toothbar gives me the capability to dig into dirt piles and to do light digging and scraping without abusing the bucket. If my soil didn't have rocks, it might be a different story, but the soil is rock-embedded light-to-medium clay and even a small rock can stop you cold. With the toothbar I can get a little down angle to get under the rocks. Also, for light excavating, remember that the teeth effectively extend the front edge of your bucket by about 6 inches, which allows you to go deeper when you dig with the loader. The toothbar attaches via two 5/8 bolts - takes me 2 minutes max to remove or install - and then I have a flat bucket edge for snow removal, backblading to smooth out soil, or light material movement like sawdust or mulch. If you want to dig, especially with rocks, I think the toothbar actually reduces the wear and tear on your bucket. The front cutting edge on my bucket still looks like new. I also think I would only put a toothbar on a HD bucket because the teeth provide the leverage for additional stresses to the structure of the bucket.

Just for your info I got nailed for $400 on my toothbar also. But like you, after using it I believe it is worth the extra cost. Mark
