I checked the harness to the PTO switch and it was Fine. I found the associated fuse was blown. I replaced the fuse and it blew again. This happened with or without the PTO switch installed.

Any help is appreciated.

These New Hollands are frought with electrical issues. Could be a diode which is located under the righthand cowling, or a pinched wire. Diodes look like a black rubber two-wire trailer hitch connector. About $15 from dealer or 50 cents from Radio Shack if you want to diasassemble the diode---my skid steer was eating these so I found a easy and cheap way to fix it. BTW the reason my was blowing diodes was the reversing lever's "2-speed" switch connector became disconnected enough that it would draw too many amps and blow it. ....

Thanks for the info. I pulled one diode out of the circuit and the issue cleared. I still have to get a replacement part, but the fault was found.

Again thank you for the help.

Just an update.

The problem cropped up again with the diode out. Fuses were popping and when they didn't the tractor would not start.

I checked the battery voltage and it was 9.8V no load.

Battery replaced and all is well with the diode in place.

Theory:

The battery voltage was so low the starter was pulling a ton of current, enough to pop the fuse. now with a new battery current through the circuit is within the fuse range. ....
