I have a 2120 new holland with a cracked block.

After visiting the Proctology/parts department at the local New Holland dealer I think I am the proud owner of a 20k boat anchor.
It developed a crack in the lower left corner mount of the block on the inside corner of the flange.

As is customary... they have never seen this before, but after perusing the net its apparent this problem is fairly prevalent. With 249 hours, synthetic oil and spreading gravel with the new holland loader I guess that's just too much to expect out of an agricultural peice of equipment. These make great lawnmowers, but that seems to be the edge of the engineering capabilities fo rthis product.

Now that the bitchin' is over, does anyone know if a perkins 400 series now in production will matchup with this tractor as Perkins and Shibaura have a joint venturein Georgia????

Thanks, disenfranchised formerly loyal New Holland owner. I currently have 3 other New holland products and they are for sale at this very moment.

I have a 2120 new holland with a cracked block.

I can't picture where the break occurred, but is it possible that a qualified machinery repair shop could repair it? I've seen some inexpensive brazing (possibly silver solder) jobs done on steel stamping pressses that held up for years under extreme conditions.

Sorry to hear of your trouble, I would be sick too! If you have an opportunity, post some pictures so others can be aware of the issue.

I'd be splitting the tractor and welding it back together. You are right as it is not a new problem and it still goes on with many compact tractor designs after loaders are attached. Welding cast is a slow process but if you protect it with some extra steel supports between the clutch housing to the front of the tractor and be sure to keep the bolts tight we have had good luck with a small repair like you described.

My Cub Cadet 7275 (Mitsubushi) and others in that productline are susceptable to this as well. Cadet has always kept this "hush" but made a bracket support to remedy the situation (I hope). The problem generally came from hard use.

I would say that is most likely the reason commercial TLB's are constructed with a steel rail frame and the components are bolted to it rather than to each other to form the body of the tractor.

I have read about this type of thing occurring with the older model 555 Ford backhoes. I believe in the early 90's they switched to a frame/component type build. I have run many of the old Ford machines, even the converted farm tractor with a canvass cab, and never saw one break. We pounded the things over the road as well. Froze our butts in the winter Smile

I have a 2120 new holland with a cracked block.

I bought a 2120 with a backhoe and front end loader. The engine block was cracked on it and I got it repaired for a little less than $3000. I used an independent shop and they bought a new block though the local Case dealer for a lot less than through New Holland.

The cause of the block failure can be traced probably to not keeping all the bolts attaching front end loader tight. There is also a kit to use to spread the force to other holes. My machine came out of utility construction and trying to crack concrete and asphalt pavement was too much for it.
