Can anyone tell me what wires I need to plug into to wire up a rear work light on a TC40

If it's anything like the TC33D, there should already be wiring in the ROPs.

I'm no NH expert, but most manufacturers will have included connectors for such features into the stock wire harness. It's easier and cheaper to do it up front. On my JD4310, the wires for a rear light were located at the back of the unit near the back of the seat. My light is mounted on my ROPS and they have existing holes for routing a wire through the ROPS to the main harness connections. Take a close look, if the NH engineers did their job right, the connections should be there for you.

They are there. They will have a black rubber cap over them and are zip tied to the rops in front of the fuel tank.

ringtail - you'll love having that light pointed out back. Not just so you can what your implement is doing, but so you can easily hookup that implement you forgot to attach yesterday when it was light outside.
