My dealer has offered me an insurance package for my tractor (Ins. is required since I financed) His package covers everything you can think of and replaces the rig with exactly what I paid for it even after it depreciates.
My dealer recomends it even though it is a bit spendy at 10 bucks a month. The one thing I did not like and I would like some of your opinions on this. In the contract is states that if I pay off early (since it is rolled into the contract price) I may not be able to get back the premiums that were in the contract price? "MAY" is the key word, I am waiting for a response ( I emailed him today) Should I blow this off and get my own ins. (just fire and theft) or go with the one that will pay even if I hit a tree or roll it or do anything that should not of been done.

Brokenarrow, you can bet there is some form of kickback between your dealer and their ''chosen''insurance company. Save youself a few bucks and see your local insurance agent and maybe get a home, car and tractor discount.

That's CHEAP insurance. Home owner's insurance usually has something like a $500 deductible and some even limit hp to under 35 hp or even less. I would say grab the insurance an sleep well and rest easy well you use your machine. I wish I could get insurance for mine that cheap.

That's about three times what JD charged me for similar coverage during my finance period.

$10 a month, $120 a year, isn't that bad at all, but my tractor is covered under the personal property with my home owners insurance (estate policy), This sounds great if your tractor is covered for comercial use. The question I would be asking would be is the tractor covered under this policy for the designated term of the loan? Example 48 month loan includes a cost of $10 a month for replacement value insurance, or you are required to purchase an insurance policy for replacement value that covers your tractor for the original financed length of time. If I pay that contract off in 24 months is my tractor still covered for the original 48 month term? since I paid 48 months worth of premiums per the contract? As the insurance company is paid up front and you are just borrowing that money from the lender to pay that policy thereby raising your payment $10 per month. Or is this policy to protect the lender? yes it is. and chances are they will not lend you the money if you do not agree to purchase this policy for the lender.

Well I dont have to purchase the policy to get the loan, I can get my own ins. thru my home owner for about $65 a year. That would only cover theft and loss due to fire/flood ect. The dealer ins. covers damage to tractor just like a colision policy on your car except it will pay me the FULL purchase price even if it is 5-6 years old. The policy is for 72 months and I do believe if I pay it off early (which I had planned to of course) It is up to the dealer if I get the policy remainder returned to me or not. I dont like that, but I do like the idea of if a tree falls on my tracor or if a miss hap like what happened to kwschumm happens that it would be repaired free of charge (except the $200 ded.) Tough call I guess, sound though like I will get it broke off in my ##!! if I pay it off early. Anouther way of looking at it is that if I were to make a claim on my homeowners policy if it gets stolen, that would be ONE (1) claim away in that year from loosing my ins on my house and paying jacked up fees for the next 5 years. ( I once made 2 claims in a 6 month period and was put on a blackball list for 5 years, was dropped imediatly and could only find very HIGH state ins) That was the first 2 claims ever made by me in 12 years on the home owner policy ( some one broke into my truck twice in 4 months and took items not covered by car ins. but they were covered under the home owners) I learned a very good lesseon and that was to NEVER make a minor claim because if something happens in the next11 months and you NEED to make anouther claim you are a marked person to the Ins. companys. Waiting on the dealers response I asked him if I could pay the premiums thru normal means and not financed.
