 Replacing Ford 3000

I am replacing my 1966 Ford 3000. I have been looking at the TC 30 and The TC29D Both 4x4. They both seem to be good tractors. I also have been looking at the Farmtrac 45.Which would be a very close replacement for the 3000. In fact it is cheaper than the NH tractors. All would be equiped with loaders. I have a large mound of dirt to spread right now but after it is spread I will not really need to use a loader. Would the 29 and the 30 work as well as my 3000? I have been having a hard time with the going down in HP. If any one could give some insight it would be a help.
Thanks

 Replacing Ford 3000

I've never used a 3000, but have used a MF 135 diesel. It has about the same weight and hp as your 3000. I've found that my TC29 will do just about anything the 135 will, only slower in some cases. In heavy brush hogging, tilling or plowing, the 135 just doesn't struggle at all. Sometimes I have to go down to low range on the TC29. I've never used a loader on either one so can't help you there. The four wheel drive will help make up for the loss of weight and hp in some cases. This is good, because in my experience I run out of traction before running out of power most of the time.
I think that a lot of us wish for a bigger tractor (or more hp, anyway) sometimes. But for the combination of comfort, convenience, maneuverability, and power, the new compacts are hard to beat. I'm a fan of antique tractors, but it is hard to actually use one after getting used to the new one.
Good luck,
Bill

Using the tractor with the loader you definately will see the difference with 4WD. Most of us have forgotten to lock it in before heading into a pile and then wondered why we are not making any headway. The weight is transfered from the back to the front as you pick up a load so movement with the load is also a factor.
My antique is a little larger than yours MF65 but you will fine that you can get work done more quickly. I would recommend the hydro if you plan to use for mowing, tilling or loading.

i operated a ford 3000 for many years. we were in the landscaping business, we cleared lots, etc., but the 3000 was mainly used with a boxblade for finish grading. it was a great tractor (it's now semi-retired, but still performs when needed.) i recently bought a tc33d (same size as tc29)w/supersteer. it is VERY nimble. However, when i take backhoe off & put boxblade on, it is Nothing like 3000. i don't like it nearly as well for finish grading. the loader tho, really works good w/auto fw drive-more pushing power.

Thanks Guys, now I just have to think about the 29D or the 30. I am leaning to the 30 due to the larger displacement of the engine. And for what I do I don't need all the bells and whistles. And I with the 3000 I am used to that.

How much equipment do you have with your 3000, and how much will be compatible with the TC29/30? I have a 2240 JD (little bigger than a 3000) and a B7800 Kubota. I have a lot of equipment that works great with the JD, but would totally overwhelm the Kubota e.g. 287 (7') bushhog, heavy duty 6'box blade, 8 disc Talorway harrow, etc. I would evaluate how much of your existing equipment could be used on your new tractor before making any purchases. By the way, I'm not very familiar with late model blue tractors, so it is possible my comments are without merit - I was thinking the models you mention are basically the same size as my Kubota, if not please disregard.

Well here is the update...I did not buy the TC29D or the TC 30 ended up with the TC33D hydro with FEL. It should have it delivered on Friday.

Congratulations! I'm sure you'll enjoy your new tractor. I very nearly bought a TC33D as well. They're really nice machines.
