It is worth it if you a in a LOT of very tight places,like small yards or doing commercial work,,if you get the "Super Steer" it also comes with automatic 4WD,,which is like a "on demand" 4 wheel drive system,,

how does that work? Does it ingage when wheels start to slip?

Actually, in the Automatic Mode it disengages the power to the front wheels if one front wheel spins faster than the other and/or if wheel "wrap-up" is sensed, like making a turn on pavement or even on grass. The rear wheel RPM also figures into the mix too (example in mud the wheels stay in 4WD even becuase there is no resistance sensed) . It's complicated to describe without printing all the wording from the service manual. I have it on my 33D and you don't know it is even there. If you put it full time (locked) 4WD you know it's there---it will leave tire scuff marks on pavement and tear up the grass when turning.
