These are Chinese tractors. The quality and reliability is questionable. Try the Chinese tractor forum.

yes.ive been reading those forums as well without a whole lot of luck.the parts issue is my main concern.ive read that the bull dog was one of the two most reliable and well built chinese tractors made, not like the nortrac or the other brands.ive seen and tried the 354 and it is a very beefy unit. i normaly woudnt even look at a chinese tractor but the thought of being raped by the big three doesnt thrill me.

I understand the color price premium. I have HEARD that the bullgogs and taskmasters are the best Chinese tractors as well. I guess you know about the Korean tractors ? Kioti,Branson,Century and some mahindra's. Just as good as the colored brands, but a lot cheaper.

Good luck in your choice.

John, if the cost of a new 'big 3' tractor is a factor I would strongly suggest that you take a serious look at either an older 'big 3' tractor or a small utility class 2WD farm tractor. I would think (correct me if I'm wrong here Art) that $12,000 would buy you a pretty decent used 40hp class utility machine in your area.

There is a reason that there is a big price difference in the 'offshore' (from many places, not just China) units and North American or European built units, quality costs money. I don't think anyone who works in the industry would agree with the term 'rape', a dealer in my area told me recently he bases his sale prices on a 3-5% profit margin, on a $12,000 sale that equates to between $360 and $720 in profit, that doesn't sound too exciting to me.

The joy of owning a shiny new tractor disappears pretty quickly if it has problems and parts are hard to get, expensive, or both, besides which, IMHO, a strong, knowledgeable local dealer is your best guarantee of happiness & satisfaction.

Best of luck.

thanks murf,i agree "rape is a bit harsh" of a word,i guess its the sticker shock, pretty much the same as wheni bought my first 4wd pick up.im definately looking more in the used market now. knowing you can buy new for the same as used always puts a wrinkle in things, but suspect reliability and parts issues quickly stamps out " the joy of a shiny new tractor" thanks again. J
