Mitsubishi MT 180H right size Tiller and Mower

I have a Mitsubishi MT180h. Does anyone have any information on what size roto-tiller and finishing mower this tractor will handle without damaging the pto gears.

fredrick06,

Tractordata.com states that the MT180 has 15.5 PTO horses.

My implement book suggests that a rototiller will require about 5 horses per foot of width.

In other words, the maximum tiller width suggested for your tractor would be 36 to 40 inches.

Hope this helps.

Joel

Joel:
Thanks for the information. This helps a lot. When I purchased the tractor the pto gears was damaged, I am having them repaired at a machine shop and certainly don't want to do a repeat on the gears. I have a International 384 that I have been using a Yanmar 1300, tiller with and was planning on taking some tines off and trying it with the MT180, What do you think?
Thanks,
Fred

Fredick06,

I have no idea how wide your tiller is. It's possible that you can use it like it is.

If your tractor won't properly power the tiller in its current configuration, you can work around it by making several passes, with each consecutive pass going a bit deeper.

Of course, you should have a slip clutch on jack shaft going to the tiller, and you need to make sure that it's working properly. Slip clutches are notorious for seizing up.

If you think your current tiller is way too big for your MT180, go ahead and remove a few tines. Just be sure not to take too many from just one end.

A better solution is to find a used 36 or 40 inch offset tiller, so that you can cover at least one set of tractor wheel tracks as you go.

Hope this helps.

Joel

The MT180H can go slow enough that it should work.

Joel:
Thanks for all the information. The tiller is a RS 1300, I think, and is about 50 inches wide. The tiller will also off set side to side. I will need to try and find a slip clutch to install. Those pto gears and shaft dosen't appear as if they would take a lot of stress without something giving.
Fred
