 Losing optimism about my MT372

I went to try and pull start my MT 372 this and it appears I can't get the clutch disengaged. Is there any way to break it free? Let me know if anybody has any advice, good or bad. I'm just trying to figure out what I should do with it.

I had a similar situation with a Ford tractor loader I sold recently. Turned out to be a honey bees nest had plugged up the bell housing to the point it would not release at all. The guy bought it anyway--bees, honey and all.

If the linkage is smooth operating and good the clutch disk may be rusted to the flywheel. If you can get it started in gear and then hold the clutch pedal in while rapidly throttling the engine up and down it might break free.

If that doesn't work a more stressful method might do the job. The idea is to put stress on the clutch disk as the slip point in the drive line. One way is to drive forward with the clutch pedal pushed in and then hit the brakes. Some guys have done it by easing up to an immovable object, pushing the clutch pedal in, and then pushing hard to make the clutch slip.

This is all hearsay on my part, I've got a hydro Smile

The problem I'm having right now is i can't get the tractor started. I just had the starter tested and its good. I've got fuel to the cylinders and the glow plugs work, but I can't get it to fire. So there is some hope of freeing the clutch plate. I just need some help getting it running right now.

If a clutch is made of friction material (non-metallic) it wouldn't rust itself to the flywheel, would it? Might be somwhere at the throwout bearing. I wouldn't recommend doing what I did: depressed the clutch, put it in gear then tried to start it. And start it did--it took off (no safety interlocks)! And the clutch still didn't release

There have been a few post here about clutches rusting to flywheels. The most recent one I remember required breaking the tractor apart to free it.

Got the clutch unstuck. I took out the starter to check it and decided I would tap on the flywheel a little bit. After about 10 minutes of gentle persuasion it broke free. I'm glad I took the starter of, because one I found out it was good and 2 I fixed the clutch. Still can't get the tractor to run though, but I have a good battery and starter. I've got fuel and the glow plugs work. I'm not really sure what else to do. Anybody have any suggestions?????

I've worked on old tractors that have sat for a long time that wouldn't start even tho everything seemed right. A mechanic friend told me that pulling them with the fuel/spark off and at a speed fast enough to get the engine spinning faster than a starter will turn it gets some oil thrown up around the rings to give you a better compression seal than dry rings can do. I've had this work and than again it didn't because something else was wrong. Just a thought. Frank.

Running two parallel threads on the same subject won't work.

Please keep all the comments in one thread, since the clutch problem is fixed, keep posting in the other thread on not starting issues.
