 MF 1160 Problems?

I was just curious if anyone has had any serious problems with an 1160 4x4. I have one and have had serious problems close to every 400 hours. I just recovered from my last problem at 1350 hours.

I am considering the purchase of this model. What kind and how expensive are the problems?

Curious what kind of problems you have had. Masseys have a very good reputation.

 MF 1160 Problems?

Are you having front end problems? Seen a couple here breaking the linkage with after market loaders that were to high load rating and being used to there fullest and they were lasting about that long.

 MF 1160 Problems?

I have had to replace the front ring gear and pinion twice!!
They (Massey) said the last one is a heavy duty new style and should last. The latest repair was a bearing on the shaft for the 4wd went out and took 6 gears in the intermediate trans and the 4wd shifting fork with it. Very costly!! The tractor has a Massey loader and is used lightly on a horse farm.

 MF 1160 Problems?

I bought an 1160 from a contractor with 2100 hard hrs.
after I dissasenbled it repainted, tires etc, the pto quit,
power steering quit. pulled the pump and the key way on the shaft stipped out, massey wanted $200 and $210 for the whole pump! I took it to a machine shop and had them weld it up and make a new key way $120. I split the tractor to get at the pto clutch rebuilt it, but found out I had ripped the wire loose to the solenoid. Oh well, the front spindle seals are leaking but I just keep it topped off for now. otherwise its doing ok.sound like a lot of load on that bearng, maybe wrong size tires? difference in tire speed on 4x4s put alot of load internally especially with no slippage allowed (ie loader).Keep at it.
