 MF 1200 series vs Agco-Allis ST35

I've been looking at various compact 4WD tractors. I've heard that the MF 1200 series tractors are "twin sisters" with the Agco ST series. Does anyone have any info on which models from one line equate to which in the other? I'm mostly interested in the Agco ST35 compared to the MF equivalent model. Thanks for any help anyone can give.

John,
Don’t believe them. I have had a MF 1250 for almost two years. It has been a fine tractor. I have just over 770 hours on it and use it everyday. I have never inquired about or ordered any part that was hard to get. The parts are available and are priced high just like everybody else, but no higher. I have done just about everything that can be done with mine. I backhoe, plow, use a loader, brush hog, rake hay, haul round bales and use a litter saver. The litter saver is a real PTO power eater, but it handles it fine. Would I buy another one? Yes, without a thought.

Jerry-

Thanks for the info on MF repair bills. I'm still trying to figure out what MF model compares to what Agco model, since they're supposedly the same tractors. There are no MF dealers nearby that I can pick up a brochure from. What Horsepower is your 1250? I'm looking at the ST35 in the Agco line, which is 33 HP.

John, have you tried Massey's Website, I attached...The MF1250 is 30 Engine HP, what hp rating is the ST35, engine or PTO?

The Agco ST35 is 33 Engine HP. PTO HP is 26.8 w/gear transmission, or 25 HP w/the hydrostatic. They also make the ST30, which is 30 engine HP (looks like the indentical engine, just turns at a lower max RPM than the ST35). The ST30 is also on a smaller frame than the ST35 (6 inches shorter, and at 1900#, its about 850# lighter than the ST35)

John, I misread... The MF1250 is 33 Engine HP, 26.8 PTO HP, with 16/16 PowerShuttle trans, 25 PTO HP with Hydro, 3 cyl - 91.4 cid Iseki/Isuzu engine, 2746 lbs. 4WD. I linked the AGCO ST Compact Website and it appears they are identical except Massey Red and AGCO Orange.

John Miller III,
You have always provided some very good and helpful information. I do have one exception though. I am sure that Iseki has used Isuzu engines in some of their tractor at some time. After all they started building tractors in 1961, but didn’t start building engines in house until 1980, so they had to buy them from someone. Now for the exception…. After hearing that my 1200 series Massey (Iseki) had a Isuzu engine for quite some time and finding only the name Iseki cast in to the engine, I e-mailed Iseki, with the question.
Who designed the engine and also who manufactured it?
This is what I was e-mailed back….

”Engine of our tractor is designed and manufactured by ISEKI”

I have no question in my mind as to the origin of the engine in the MF 1200 series any longer after receiving their e-mail.
