My MF 150 occasionally lost power where, for about a minute, rpms decreased as if it were to stall, but then recovered. This problem occurred maybe once during each use (snow blowing). On the last occasion, the loss of engine power was accompanied with backfiring out the exhaust. From then on, I can start it, but it runs on 1 cylinder and backfires through the exhaust every so often. With only 1 of 4 cylinders firing, I suspected an ignition system problem. I have since replaced the spark plugs, points, condenser, rotor, distributor cap, plug wires (copper core) coil, and ignition switch. I drained the fuel tank and replaced with new fuel, removed and cleaned the carburetor, installed a new float. I also removed and cleaned the sediment bowl and filter. On warmer days, more cylinders began to fire, but not consistently. When it's about -18C, it only fires on 1 cylinder. Pulled all spark plugs and verified that each fires. Plug wires are not crossed, verified firing order and wire connections to plugs. Timing seems okay - no improvement when advancing or retarding timing. Rotor position compared to cylinder BTDC seems correct. Compression tested all cylinders - all running about equal at 124 psi. Fuel seems to be reaching the non-firing cylinders since spark plugs do get wet. I would appreciate anyone who can think of something I've missed. By all respects, the engine should run. I'm stumped!

Put about a gallon of kerosene in fuel tank with gasoline. See if that helps you, It won't hurt the engine. Also when that tractor was made it was made for fuel with 102 octane not 92 or 97.add each time to a tank of fuel some fuel additive. Locus is the best I think for a gas engine.
Good Luck Buddy. ....

I assume the kerosene is meant to increase the potential for combustion. When I drained the fuel, I did replace it with Premium gas. I also purchased an octane booster, but hadn't put it in yet.

I have no kerosene, so I'll have to wait a bit on that idea. Thanks! ....

Just thinking off the top.
Check the rotation of the rotor.
You may have the wires in backwards order.
I did that once on a motorcycle.
Try running an extra ground wire from battery ground to the head and to the body of the distributor.
Check the ground on the coil. Check for the coil arcing out.
I had a coil arcing and could not see it flash when I tried it in the dark.
