i have a noise in the front of my motor i was told its the fly weight i have new rods crank oil pump ,i done a inline rebuilt job runs great well under load the noise is about gone sitting in one spot in sounds like a tap it but it,s not had the cover off bought all new.
i have never touched the front cover on the motor with my stealth o scope it sounds like its in the cover.
any info on what i am in for. i was told they all sound like that when they are warn ....

Replace the governor assembly with the late style ball type. This should have been replace along with the timming gears or atleast check the back-lash. Too much back-lash will destroy the governor and distributor. ....

Try adjusting the buffer screw first .
If you look at the timing cover you will see a long screw with a lock nut on carefully undo the lock nut and with the engine running screw the adjuster in two turns using a screwdriver you may notice a change in engine speed, dont adjust more than four turns or you could damage the governor tension blade . if this does not work as suggested replace the timing chain and centrifugal governor assembly the complete kit will cost about 100 dollars.
