I am looking at at early 70's long tractor. I believe it is a super 55. The lift does not work but all else seems to be ok.. Do you know much about this tractor ( h.p. etc) and is there much problem in repairing the lift $$$$$$

Have you checked the archives? There are a few stories about the availability of dealer service and parts support at least for the newer models. You might try to cut a deal with the seller for purchase conditional on repair of the lift. Something along the lines of you pay or share for the repair but reserve the right to walk if repair isn't feasible. Something like that would share the risks among both of you. Unless the selling price is a real bargain I wouldn't jump unless I had an idea of the price and time required for repair. Might be good to get a sense of how much parts support in general is nearby. ....
