I have a long 445 tractor with a slow 3 pt lift going to change fluid does anyone know what is best fluid for this tractor? Not sure if pump is weak or fluid is wrong. also has milky color in old fluid. Have already cleaned mesh filter on side of engine with no icreased lift speed. Did note that when weather was colder lift operated faster until tractor got warmed up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone

Let me guess, the tractor is parked outside in the weather.

I suspect the boot on the shifter levers at least are not seated and possibly split or missing allowing rain to run into the transmission. The milky color is water in the oil. Not sure if that tractor has hyd oil filter or not but do change the oil think it uses regular hyd oil) and run and recheck to be sure no sign of water in it.

My brother's did the same with split boot sitting in the weather. I have seen people turn a bucket upside down over the transmission leverd trying to protect them from rain.

Mike as to lift speed, have you owned the tractor long? Is so is the speed slower than when you first owned it or just thinking it is slow lift? Longs do not have the pump capacity some other and maybe any other brand does. Does your have a lever on the side of the transmission for lift speed?

The Long tractor was a basic tractor built reasonable tough.

That would indicate to me that when the temps are lower, and the oil is more viscous (thicker) it increases the pressure and it goes up faster. Not much new in that.

It's possible to use a slightly heavier weight fluid to increase pressures, but I'd check if the pressure is low using the 'standard' weight fluid first.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the info. Have had tractor for about 2 years Has lifted slow since i got it. Thought maybe trying a thicker fluid may speed it up. There is no boot on shifter at all and it did sit outside this winter, year before that sat under polebarn but still was slow. Thanks again
