Has anyone had any experience using RTV for snow plowing in cold climate (say -25 degrees)? I'm thinking of getting one to plow driveway (and do a few other things) here in Central Vermont. Thanks for your help

Can't comment on the snow plowing part, but the RTV has the 27hp Kubota diesel in it. I use my 30hp 7800 all winter for plowing, and it get's a lot colded than 25 degrees here. With properly treated fuel, and a warmer on the oil pan to assure good viscosity at start-up, I wouldn't expect the RTV to respond any different than having the engine in a tractor.

By the way, those things are really nice. Test drove one last month, they aren't hard to get to really like.

I really like the RTV but it is still a young machine. I try not to buy anything that high priced its first year. They usually get tweaked for the second year. Some things I noticed are the spin on filter placed at the rear of the machine right where it will get smashed when you dump and go back and forth a little. The other thing is the extreme stopping force when you let off the hydro pedal. It almost throws you forward, on ice it may initiate a slide. My dealer warned me about it as I pulled out for a test drive. I still think they are the best machine currently made in that class, maybe in a class of their own.

I wish it had 27 HP. I could use it at this altitude. It is rated at 21.6 horses.

On the plowing question: It has the same engine/power as a BX 2230 and the weight of a B7800/2910(21 HP and 1800 pounds). The tranny is not geared as low as a tractor. 1st gear on the RTV has a top speed of about 8 mph.... roughly the same as the BX's high range.

But the HST will cover a multitude of situations and I think overall you will be pleased with the performance as a snow plow, especially if you choose the turf or the knobby tires.

If you have any concerns about traction, a 195 or 205/70-14 or 195 or 205/70-15 studded snow tire on an white spoke rim will bolt right to the hubs and are the same height (24-25 inches) as the stock tires.

The hydro on the RTV is in a class of it's own. It actually uses two pumps to accomplish the higher groound speeds instead of just one like what we are used to. The basic rearend is 2710-2910 which is a well proven design. Kubota might improve on there already well tested design to fine tune them but there have been no problems with the machines that we have sold. Kubota has not been a company that leaves the customers to be the guinea-pigs to do there testing for them. They have introduced some very limited market items that do to low demand that didn't take in the market but they were still built at the same level of product integerity as the rest of the line.
