 3830dt vs 3430 dt with 723 loaders

Have been looking at both tractors, does anyone have a feel if the price differerance is worth price difference? Is the difference in the hp something that will be real noticeable?

Not really. You will have a tad more rear wheel power & that will be the only difference. So while carry heavy things you may need to use a lower speed or use more RPM's.

Depending upon your intended future uses; the lack of extra pto hp could be sorely noticed.

Heavy rotary cutting for one. PTO generator use for another (figure 2 hp for each Kw.) I have used up every bit of pto hp on my 4410 doing some heavy thick finish mowing with the MMM. Depending upon how big of a price jump we are talking about; I would say just about always go a bit more. If the price jump is like between the Deere 4310 and 4410 (about $1,500) I would say no, it is not worth it but in some unusual circumstances it could be. I am saying to very carefully condsider the uses you plan for the machine and leave yourself some fudge factor. You can never have enough fudge. ;o)

The grass is pasture grass that I cut about 5 " high. It gets to above knee height at times and is on very steep slopes which also eats hp. Got treated with 19-19-19 this Spring.

Sounds like you cut about 18" - 20" off! how fast dod you mow it & were you able to mow it in one pass?

Depends on how thick the grass is but I usually mow at a slow to brisk walk speed. Most times I get it all with one pass. When you hit the hp limit of the engine you will notice a rapid fall off of rpm unless the eHydro pedal is let up some.

We are getting off topic and meandering away from deamtn's original question. The L3130 may be plenty depending upon the uses intended. If you will notice there is a hp war on between the CUT manufacturers. Part of this is a sales driven phenomenon but the big reason for the added hp is that folks want more hp for the reasons I stated above. The generator issue is probably the biggest. A 15 Kw pto generator requires a minimum 30 pto hp to run but most houses require about 20 Kw to be fully powered (especially country homes on wells). With a breakered switch panel most can get by with 10 to 15 Kw. The L3130 with HST trans makes 24 pto hp; enough to run a 12 Kw. The L3830 with HST makes 30.5 pto hp; enough to run a 15 Kw and perhaps handle heavy surge draw. To run a 20 Kw generator; you would need the L5030. 30 pto hp is a very nice compromise and useful hp range on a CUT in my opinion. Can you get by with less? Absolutely! Just plan its uses before you buy.

The pricing spread seems to be a little above $1000.00 from the 3130 the 3430. But as for the 3430 to 3830 there is a much greater sprread.
