 BX23 Grease Fitting issue

First time I have lubed the tractor after 10 Hr. and the first fitting broke off and it was nearly impossible to get the grease gun off the second fitting. Are these non-standard fittings? I am using a standard US General grease gun.

Many times the grease gun couplers are poorly made and are the problem. Our operators will wear out a couple of them a year. Usually the problem is a poor seal.

Your case might be a poor coupler, bad fitting (maybe still has paint on it) or there is still pressure on the fitting keeping the coupler locked on.

Change the fitting, check pressure (does the coupler move VERY easily around the fitting in a circular motion?) replace the coupler.

In close quarters it is possible to get a fitting on a flex-hose onto a fitting and then not be able to get it off if the fitting is held at an angle against something. The TX shaft fitting on my snow-blower gave me that problem until I realized that I had to rotate the shaft so the fitting was away from the chain going over the sprocket. Otherwise the width of the chain outside the sprocket held the fitting at an angle. I also had to change a couple of 90-degree fittings on my loader for 45's.

I think there are a few special fittings available for grease guns but I was able to solve my problems without them.

Harvey has a good point I can't tell you how many heads I've gone thru in years past. It still doesn't mean a fitting might be bad.

Most grease gun couplers can be turned (screwed in and out) to adjust how tight they snap down on the fitting. I have several fittings that I have to loosen the coupler to get the grease gun back off of the fitting.

I have replaced the grease gun coupler end with one that can be adjusted with a twist of the end. This made it very easy to lube the tractor with very little effort. Thanks for the feedback and info....
