 larger bucket for B7800

I'm getting really close to buying a B7800. Other choices are NH TC30, TC29D or JD 4210. Of these, the B7800 has the smallest bucket on the standard FEL. I'll assume the Kubota engineers did their homework when they sized that bucket for digging and moving heavy stuff. But for light things (wood chips and wood shavings) I'd like more volume. Any comments on using a larger bucket, or adding "wings" to increase its volume?

Thanks
-Neal

 larger bucket for B7800

Here in Canadian horse country, the most common approach is to make a 'bucket extension' out of plywood that just fits into the existing bucket.

Basically just two sides and a bottom that are bolted together using light abgle for the seams and another piece folded right around to make a cutting edge of sorts for the lead edge. They usually bolt through some existing holes in the upper sides with wing nuts to make it easy on/easy off. By sticking to regular bucket width it allows it to still fit through doors and gates, but still holds a good volume. They make short work of a big pile of shavings or mucking out stalls.

If you put a little colour matched paint on them you cant tell there not steel unless you get real close, and their CHEAP to make.

Best of luck.

 larger bucket for B7800

Murf,

Thanks for the suggestion. How big can I make it? Can I double the depth/volume of the existing bucket?

Thanks
-Neal

I briefly considered the B7800 but have ordered a larger tractor so I don't remember the features of the B7800. I suggest that you check if the FEL can be purchased with a skid steer type of quick attach. You could then buy a dry material bucket that would have a larger volume. More money I know but more versatile in the future.

The 54" is standard on the 402 loader but we normally use the optional 60" bucket, code 1617

Neal, the 'norm' around here seems to be a lot more than double, I'd guess-ta-mate it is about 4' out and 2' high, which I suspect is more a function of the size of a sheet of plywood than anything else.

From an engineering point of view there is only two real factors to be concerned with, how much weight and how much farther out it is since leverage will increase the effective weight.

The other common practice is to just make a big 3-sided plywood box on top of a pallet. Then using forks on the FEL carry it around as needed. A loop of chain around thefork frame and through some holes in the back make it easily 'dump-able'.

Best of luck.
