 3 pt hitch

Hi there, I recently purchased a rear mounted snow blower for my L4310 HST tractor. After the oil warms up the 3 pt hitch does not lift the blower, I can hear a hissing noise, it sounds as if hydraulic oil is by passing somewhere. When the oil is cold it works OK. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you have a leak small enough to get away with when the viscosity of the oil is high from being cold. This type of leak could be in the spool or in the piston seal. Have you had this problem before you purchased the blower, and can you determine if the hissing is in the valve body or the cylinder case? The cold/hot cycle in this weather can be tough on the piston seals. Have you run the 3-point before the tractor has come to operating temperature? We can figure this out with a little more background.

If there is a leak, the 3pt should drop rather fast after the egnine is shut off. Is that the case?

The tractor was purchased about 1 year ago, I used it all summer with a brush cutter and had no problems. The hissing noise seems to come from a aluminum block that's located under the tractor, the block or valve has two hydraulic hoses attached to it. There is what appears to be a adjusting stem also. I did try to see what happens when I shut the tractor off. I'll try it tomorrow. Thanks.

What size snowblower did you get? It sounds like a relief valve or a possible o-ring but I doubt that as they get worse with use.

If you suspect a leak in the lines, test for it with a piece of cardboard and NEVER with your fingers. Also wear safety goggles and keep your hear away from the lines. You can't see the stream from a pin hole leak but it can inject oil under the skin which requires immediate medical attention to prevent amputation. There--scary enough?

Relief valve is what I though as well, but I'd describe the sound more like a squeal than a hiss. You might want to check if the blower's weight exceeds the 3ph capacity rating. I'd also check if the hitch might be binding. If the tractor has a loader, you might curl the bucket as far as it will go and hold the valve open for a few seconds to see if you get the same sound. If the blower isn't on the large side for the tractor, a pressure test might be good.

Temperature sensitive should be a clue here. If the "hissing" is coming from the case and not the control valve, and the problem is heat sensitive, I would look at seals and weak relief springs. Normally relief valves "Squawk" more than hiss. Hissing sounds more like a leaking fluid to low pressure. Look for external signs of fluid with the machine off. You don't want to get hit with escaping hydraulic fluid, it can cause gangrene. If you don't see any fluid, your leak by is probably in the case.

If the pressure releif valve is stuck open it will not squawk, it will just hiss. The noise is caused by the valve rapidly opening and closing, if it is stuck it will just run past. If it is a small leak then there would be enough restriction from the thick oil to give enough pressure to make the 3pth lift.

You don't mention if the loader is affected or just the 3pth.

Best of luck.

First thing I would like to thank every body who took time to send responses to my problem. The loader is not affected at all by the 3 pt hitch problem. The snow blower is 6 ft wide, it was installed by the snow blower shop and not by the Kobota dealer.
