New Tire BLOWOUT on Kubota BX22

I have A BX22 with just under 12 hours on it and was scrubbing out some juniper brush today when the front right turf tire literally blew. It sounded like a shotgun went off and puff of smoke flew out. Initially I thought the engine had blown. The tread was torn in several directions, almost in a rough X pattern with the inner layers split. I am no tire expert but it seems to me one of the belts or layers in the tire was defective. Most of the neighbors heard the blast and I don't live that close to people. I realize tires are rarley covered under warranty. I contacted the dealer, which was after 6:00p, and he said he would call Kubota and see what he could do and let me know tomorrow. The question I have is if anyone has had a similar experience and what do you think I should expect from the dealer? Eric

I think most tires have a workmanship warranty. At 12 hours maybe Kubota would cover it for goodwill. I'd think they'd be interested to see why it failed in case they have problems with a supplier.

Out of curiousity, what brand of tires are they and what pressure did you have in them?

They are grassmasters and I have only had the tractor for a couple of weeks and haven't checked the tire pressure since it was delivered on 8/25.

I would wonder if the dealer lowered the pressure after shipping. They place more pressure in the tires so the tractors do not bounce around and loosen the chains. Normally you run no more than 30 psi in the tires, as low as possible for traction. I have had punctures in my tires and cuts with the pressure there should be no blow out.
Eric

The tire manufacturer is the one that needs to be contacted. The dealer can do that for you and should handle it for you. The tire company might have a stronger dealer for them in your area and he might be the one to come out. I would wonder what the other tires pressure might be? With the tear that you described I might wonder if it was not punctured by a root. I've not had to replace any of the turf tires on the BX yet to say there is a problem with them.

I checked the tire pressure in the other front tire and it was 30psi. The tire stated 22psi max. I lowered the pressure accordingly (this what the dealer delivered it with). The dealer, after making a lot of moans and groans (complaining that dealing with warranty issues cost him so much money because of time spent on the phone), about having to deal with it is going to send it back to the tire manu. I had to drop it off myself. Before doing so I located another dealer to purchase another wheel and tire and had them look at the tire. The way it wore for the short time I used it (12 HRS.), they felt the tire had been overinflated. I may have driven over a root, and wonder if the over inflation did not significantly contribute to the blowout. A whole new tire and wheel was only 55.00. I would have thought my original dealer would have given me the tire and wheel and sent back the original with the understanding that if it was not covered I would be billed. I feel he is being pennywise and dollar foolish. Because of the attitude I purchased all my fluids, filters and misc. items for the 50 hr maintenance from the other dealer who had the tire.

Tire pressure is something the dealer should have checked on pre-delivery. My tractor too arrived with over inflated tires but I checked it as soon as I got it and adjusted it. Sounds to me like the dealer owes you a new tire. Try contacting Kubota corporate if the dealer does not want to be reasonable with you, but give him a chance first. If he gives you the tire, you will have a spare just in case.

Definately was caused by over inflation. We have had more than one post on the subject over the summer although most were complaining about ride and traction.
He is at fault although he as he delivered it wrong. I don't know how you et them to deal with it though.
The JD 955 rims for my tractor were 70$ and the tires 35$. I certainly would have squeeled a little louder if it had happened to me.
