 BX Engine Speed?

I find that I can do 90% of my light loader work (mulching, etc) with my BX1500 at idle speed. I am used to old Ford tractors that just chug along. Does it hurt my Kubota to work at low engine speeds? I hate to hear it race.
JD

I did that with my BX 22 also and have since learned that it may not be the best practice.

In essence you are using a very low oil volume/flow to do the work and that could cause the oil to overheat (kinda bad) and the hydraulic pump to cavitate (real bad).

All this is not to say you have to blast around at full throttle all the time...... but I think 1/2 to 3/4 throttle might be better for the longevity of the machine.

Did you know there is an inexpensive aftermarket tach available for the BX?

I am interested in the aftermarket tach you mention. Could you post the info on the name and where to get it? Eric

Hydro's need oil just as Mark said. You should run it as suggested even if it is light loader work. If you are just traveling around your property then 1/3 throttle would be fine other than climbing hills.

There is one specific model that is for diesels only. It uses a transducer the "read" the fuel injector pulse on a selected fuel line.

It requires that you to measure the diameter of your fuel lines to correctly size the transducer. Your BX 1800 should have a 6mm (.244 inch) fuel line. Double check to make sure before ordering.

Thanks for the info. Not sure if it is really needed but since I am into gadgets it will give me something else to look at.
