 Power steering or not?

I am shopping for a compact tractor and have a question about the necessity for power stering. The Kubota 7300 with front loader and rear mount finish mower vs the 1700 similarly equipped. The 7300 4wd does not have power steering, nor is it optional. I have level land 8%, plan to maintain a gravel drive with box blade, and do light loader work.

Put me down for power steering. Especially if you have turf tires and a loader having power steering makes all the difference. If the manufacturerswould offer a sufficiently low geared manual steering box the power steeringwould not be so necessary.....but to my knowledge nobody does this. Before you buy a tractor without power steering be sure to load up the bucketand drive it around for awhile. Its not just a question of power steering being more comfortable, some of the small compacts with big buckets are so hard to steer that you have to putthe bucket on the ground to turn the wheels. I know; I own one. Roger L

 Power steering or not?

I thought power steering was a lazy gimmick until it came standard on my 4100. It is amazing for cutting around obstacles. Today I was using my old lawn tractor and thought there was something wrong it was so hard to turn. I don't know how useful the cruise control it came with standard will be for me though.

I will tell ya this, though.I just bought a Yanmar 2500 grey and the steering was stiff.I greased it up and voila! easy steering. Now I agree with a loader that PS would be almost mandatory,BUT if you have a manual steering tractor,be sure that it's greased well and often and it will help!! I got that tidbit of info from my 66 year old father who can remember when there were manual steering cars only!!!

If you haven't bought yet go for the power steering. With the loader full it really helps. I have an old Powerking with a loader and no power steering and a also have a Kubota L2550/loader with power steering. From my experience I go with the power steering. You should take Roger advice and try to drive it around with the loader full. That should give you a little better idea on what would be best for you.Like you said you only plan on doing light loader work. The finally decision will be yours good luck with your purchase.
