 Radio on BX?

I spend so much time on my BX1500, that I'd like to have a radio on board. Has anybody figured a good place to mount one?

There are some muff type hearing protectors that have built in radios. That would seem a pretty good solution for somebody who can tolerate muffs, and it wouldn't have to be mounted. The general trouble with radios is that tractors are pretty loud so a radio would have to be even louder.

I can attest to that! Can't imagine your could turn the volume up high enough on a chassis mounted unit to drown out even that little diesel.

I have toyed around with ear buds under earmuffs and while the sound quality was acceptable, I had problems with directional reception.

Of course that applies to radio, if you were listening to recorded music it might work better.

8Nford I bought a radio like the ones on field tractors. Yup they are cheezy but they work. Any ways I had a hard time deciding where to mount on my 4400 JD. Finially welded a short piece of angle iron on the bottom half of ROPS and bolted radio on that. (I don't wanna hear all about the ROPs folding up or breaking if I stress it!)

I use -30db soft plugs with stereo muffs while mowing or other long seat time jobs works real good.

It also works good out in the yard with tractor not running for noise while I am tinkering at something.

Gonna take the whole radio to a good shop and get a digital radio with a GOOD CD fabricated for it. Also need a good line noise filter because of Cheezy wiring in tractors and alt noise.

 Radio on BX?

I have a pair of radio ear muffs like TomG is referring to. My wife got them for me as a Christmas gift(approximately $50+). They're great, especially when mowing. I have mixed feelings thought about wearing any hearing protection when I'm around other people or moving vehicles and not always going forward.

Foghorn - Do you know what brand muffs you've got? Do they have a receiver built in or do you plug them into a Walkman or something? I'd be interested in getting a hold of a pair.

Peltor is the brand, Worktunes AM/FM, is the model(they're yellow/black). My wife got them from the "Tool Crib" for $56; do a search for Peltor on the web. I believe Peltor makes another model for $135 (FM sterio), they are red/black. The "Worktunes AM/FM" feel great and sound great too... highly recommend them!!!

Oh, I forgot... they have a built-in receiver.

 Radio on BX?

I had a hard-mounted AM/FM cassette with headphones on my New Holland TC33D---$127 piece of junk. I found myself teathered like a dog to the tractor. No good. Scrapped the radio for a hi-quality muff-style from Radio Shack for less than $50 (AM/FM mono/stereo digital receiver) . Batteries last a long time, reception is excellent, extremely durable, light weight, and allow just enough ambient noise to be safe. I had more expensive ones ($100) but they were heavy, bulky and don't allow for "breathing" of your scalp/ear area--sounds yucky but when you perspire it collects in the muff and runs down your neck!
