I think there was a discussion on the subject not too long ago. Not good news, but I don't think anybody came up with a unit. There are of course gear companies that would build one but probably at the cost of a new tractor. There probably are OEM units that would work with a bit of modification but locating one would be difficult.

Something that might work is to identify a large regional metal fabrication shop. Some of them specialize in building implements like snow blowers and post-hole augers. A dealer might know of shop in your area. Since most of these folks use OEM parts they might be able to identify a gear box and do any modification required at a realistic price.

Yes they do spin backwards. Those are the early tractors to hit this country. I don't know of any relief for you. I had contacted some of the manufacturers that built attachments for them and they couldn't help to find the parts to make machines work at this time.

Barney, the down 'n' dirty solution is to takes the blades of the mower and sharpen the back edges. It won't work great, but it will cut grass.

The easiest solution I've seen is to have a 'hanging' gear box made, an old automotive timing chain (but with 2 EQUAL size gears) in a piece of structural tube steel sealed for an oil-bath lube system to convert your unit to a front-facing pto and get a long drive-shaft made. Besides a front-mount mower is WAY nicer to cut with.

Best of luck.

Barney -

To take Murf's suggestion one step further, you are able to find aftermarket blades in either a right hand or left hand configuration. Finding them may be the challenge, however, a company such as "ProLine" carries all sorts of different blades, right and left. They may not have the exact offset as you desire, but it sure would beat the price and time of buying a reverse gear box.

Just a thought...

I have no idea of the blade structure, But if they are flat enought just turn them over and install up side down. How will the belt tensioner work running backwards in heavy mowing??? Use a heavier spring???
