 Kubota L185DT weight?

Hi, looking to trailer my Dad's Kubota L185DT with loader for him. He doesn't have any manuals or other documentation for the tractor. Could someone supply the weight of the tractor + loader for me?

Wondering if I can handle this safely on a 3500 lb HD single axle tilt trailer with electric brakes behind a 3/4 ton diesel pickup? This is a low-profile Bobcat-style trailer with a flat deck.

Thanks!

The L185DT comes in at just under 2100lbs. Add the FEL weight and your up to about 2500+ lbs. Putting this on a single axle trailer?, I would not recommend even with brakes and a low profile deck. That is alot of weight to catch in a whip.
The 3500 lb axle trailer that you wrote about, brings to light a very common misconception about trailer weights. The axle capacity rating is just that, a rating for the axle with the entire load, or weight of the load and trailer on it. Many people don't take into consideration the weight of the trailer, then wonder why the axle bent, the tongue broke off, etc.

Short ride, maybe at low speeds, You'd be surprised at how much better, safer, and easier handling a tandem axle trailer is to haul with.

Willie,

Thanks for the L185DT data, and the tractor advice. Certainly don't want to put myself in a situation where I have 'too much tractor, too little trailer' and someone gets hurt.

We'll upgrade to a dual-axle trailer in the 4 ton capacity, and play it safe!

Thanks for the education and honest input!

Willie,

A 4/5 ton trailer in this configuration is what you were recommending, correct?

Two 3500 pound axles, proper frame, proper hitch for loading, good ramps, low trailer height, electric brakes.

Any suggestions on dual ramps vs. mesh gate?

Thanks.

My vote: Ramps. That mesh gate is not as strong as a good solid set of ramps, and they are generally designed to run lawnmowers and other light equipment in and out of the trailer. Besides, that mesh gate is like dragging a sail behind you at highway speeds.

Yes, a tandem axle trailer that is configured with twin 3500 lb axles should do the trick fine. If you're shopping, whether new or used, the trick is not to get stuck with a landscape trailer. These are generally made of angle iron, utilizing considerably lighter weight(gage) materials throughout. Look for a box tube frame trailer, that has tandem axles, usually with 15in wheels and tires. As Mark pointed out, and I certainly agree, ramps are the way to go. Stay away from the gates if at all possible, for strength as well as for drag.
I carry my equipment on a 16ft tandem,(overall about 20ft), 3500lb axles with 5k spring sets on each side of the axles for stability, using old aluminum auto transport ramps that I found at a tag sale for $100.

As they say..."better safe than sorry!"
