 Maximum RPM Adjustment

I have recently purchased an L2900 Kubota. The service manual states the maximum RPM at 2700. When the hand throttle lever is in full throttle position it's only turning 2500 RPM, if I push the foot throttle I can get the extra 200 RPMs. Is this intentional? OR should I adjust the hand throttle to 2700 RPM? If I do, will it over rev if I use the foot peddle? Am I being too picky? With a 5 foot brush cutter the difference of 200 more RPMs seems to work a little better.

 Maximum RPM Adjustment

At least on my Ford, the max no-load rpm adjustment is made by changing the length of the throttle rod by a turnbuckle in the rod. The min no-load adjustment is made by changing the spring tension. Both the hand and foot throttle operate on the same throttle-rod. If that were happening to me, I'd suspect that the hand-throttle wasn't getting full travel. Increasing the adjustment to the speced max no-load rpm for the hand-throttle likely would increase the max rpm for the foot throttle as well.

Of course max loaded and unloaded rpm's are somewhat different and mowers are designed to be operated at pto rpm irrespective of the max rpm adjustment.

I would say to adjust your throttle if you feel you need it. Otherwise on the old JD4020's they used to use that as a way to get a little more when under heavy load.

The tach on my JD950 has 2 marks. One says "Rated PTO" which is about 2500 rpm (to give 540 PTO rpm). The other says "Max PTO". Like yours, mine will only run at rated rpm with the hand throttle at max. I think that is intentional so that the PTO runs at rated speed.

I would agree with Art's comment, on one hand it is convenient to have the 'preset' on the hand throttle, on the other hand, the extra rev's might come in handy when doing heavy grass cutting for instance.

I would leave it alone and just use the foot throttle for the extra 'kick' when you need it.

Best of luck.
