 Skinny rear axles on the B7800

Just out of curiousity I stopped at a Kubota dealer and checked out the B7800 and it looked real nice. But, did anybody look at those skinny axles on the back tires? Maybe it's my imagination, but they looked like ATV axles and looked cheesy and light? All around it appeared to be a nice tractor but not nice enough to consider me getting rid of my B-2150 for a bigger engine.

 Skinny rear axles on the B7800

Hey, metallurgy is metallurgy. I'd rather have a skinny axle made of moly/vanadium/steel drill stock alloy than a big thick axle made of cast iron. No?

Ever check out the size of the U joints on big truck drive shafts? The entire truck is driven by a joint that can't be more than 3/4 inch in diameter at the sprocket.

It's all about the alloy, dude.

 Skinny rear axles on the B7800

Looked at a B7800 yesterday. The rear axles are heavier than those on any pick-up I have ever owned.

They are certainly much, much thicker than the PTO output shaft, which is about the thickness of most car and truck axles.

 Skinny rear axles on the B7800

Jeff, there is a difference between axles and axle housings. The axles are longer out of the housings but at their diameter I don't think you could begin to bend them or break them without breaking the housing they are attached to for any of the limits on the three point hitch. Now if you could lift a couple of tons on the three point I would worry.
