Looking at buying 12.5 acre then maybe 10 to 15 more acre in future. Land is fairly flat. Will probably cut 4 to 5 acre and the remaining will be for horses. Plan on building a pond approximate 1 acre in size. The pond is no problem since my father has a Case 580K loader/hoe. By biggest problem is to move it the 20 or so miles to the land. Well to the point is the BX2200 the right sized tractor? It has a reasonable price with a average of about $12,000 on the net with loader and mower.

There are a lot of threads regarding size tractor vs acerage. The BX is one of the best tractors for light duty and lawn care for a homeowner. They are really too small for large plots and/or any heavy work. I would look to a B7800 or larger if checking out Kubota.

If your mowing chores amount to cutting a lot of grass, you might be happy with a 60 inch mid-mount mower and a BX.

If you are needing a brush cutter/brush hog I think the BX would be maxed out at 48 inches and that could get a bit tedious with all that acreage.

I was thinking about a 60"MMM or a 3pt finishing. The land was clear cut about 7 years ago and root draged. It has 10' to 15' pines and brush. I will probably only cut 4 acre around house barn once built and let the horses take care of the rest. The money tapes out at about $15,000 so I need to get every thing for less than that. I prefer to go new. The only other thing I will need is a posthole digger. Now I looked at the New Holland TC21D for $8850 4wd with R4's but the hyd pump capacity 1 gpm less is that a bit diffrence?

I have a one year old BX2200 with a 60"mid mount mower. I mow grass around my farm house, pond and barn. Not sure how many acres, but it takes 3-4hours. I love the tractor as a mower- it can cut deep stuff with ease, its quiet, very reliable, runs like a finely tuned watch and is comfortable for long stretches (I'm 6'3'/250#). I also have Kubota L3010 with a FEL, bush hog and post hole digger. Not sure the smaller tractor has the power, suspension, ground clearance, etc to handle the rougher stuff.

I think the BX2200 will be too small for what you want to do. I would look at a B7500 or B2410, or B7800. You may want to look at the new CK20 by Kioti, it looks like a real nice tractor and you may be able to work in under your $15 K limit. I do not think too many people have regretted going to big, but some have regretted going too small. 0% for Kobota for 3 years is nice too!

Remember shopping is half the fun!

Regards

Tom
