Bent Drive line for woods rotary cutter

Any recommendations on how to straighten a bent drive shaft for a rotary cutter? It's not bent very much but I'm afraid it will eventually cause problems with the PTO seal on my Kubota 3010. I did not realize there was a 4"x4" piece of wood between the shaft and the mower deck when I raised it and it subsequently bent the drive-line. Am I better off just replacing it? Thanks in advance for any help. Tim tim@nvpools.com

I'd probably replace it. I think repair would require a decent hydraulic press and some experience with these things. I'm not sure 'eyeballing' would be good enough. I suspect that getting the slip-joint to work smoothly might be a problem. I don't think balance is as great an issue for a 540 PTO shaft as it is for a truck. A drive shaft problem on my truck had to be cured by a specialty shop and at fair cost.

Moose Max, Why don't you turn the drive shaft 180 degrees, put the 4x4 back where it was? If it bent it the first time, it should bend it back. Just take it easy. You don't have anything to loose, if you are going to buy a new one anyway.

These drive shafts do not spin as fast as one for a vehicle, but you still need to have fairly good balance or you will wear the universal joints and can have the shaft split. I doubt you will be able to straighten it enough to fix it but any machine shop that does drive shafts should be able to straighten it. The other option would be to buy just one half if the bend is only on one end.
