how to remove 3 pt. hitch

I have a L2250 and can not remove the lower 3 pt. hitch bar. It is held in place
with a pin between 2 bushings. The pin will not pull out from the bushings...
hit it with a torch and then cold water, used liquid wrench... I may have to
cut the pin out and then drill it out. There must be a better way?

I can't recomend trying to drill it out as being a very fast method either, I don't know what they make those pins out of, but it is a @#$%&* to try and cut or drill. It is probably rusted together in the bore, the rust causes expansion which will lock it in there almost as solid as if it were welded. I would suggest denching it in light oil and allow it to soak in for a while then using a hammer and drift punch try to drive the pin out, if it is still stubborn try an air chisel to drive it out. Be careful however to not mushroom the end of the pin or it will be REALLY hard to get out. Best luck.

There is no easy way to remove those pins as Murf stated. His method is as good as we often have to use in the shop. It's unfortunate that there aren't many reasons to remove them so they often go years before removal and with no lubrication they can be quite difficult to work with.

I remember having similar trouble driving out the locking pins for the king pins on my old Econoline. That was a long time ago. I'm sitting here trying to remember if the pins were tapered, and if they were whether it was obvious which way they had to be driven out.

The kingpins themselves were rusted onto the axle and also gave me a lot of trouble. I eventually got a torch and got them out. I've found that things will come apart if you get them hot enough. However, heating up assemblies to cherry-red isn’t feasible if greased parts are still attached. It also ruins any heat-treated parts. As I recall, I ended up drilling out the locking pins--something that probably put me in ill-humor for a week or so.

how to remove 3 pt. hitch

I just removed the 3ph pins from a kubota L4310 for backhoe install, the owner had broken off the retainers trying to get the pins out . very carefully i welded a 1/2" bolt with washer onto the end of the pin.Than i hooked a chain onto the end of the bolt, ran the chain out through a hole in the rear wheel toget a straight pull. I than hooked a heavy auto body style slide hammer onto the end of the chain . the pins poped right out, the owner was amazed , he thought he was in for an expensive repair, I had less than a 1/2 hour in the whole job.

Yeah, that's a neat trick. I've heard of similar tricks to get out broken off bolts. It just seems that I never had a welder when such things happen to me, and I think I can count the times easy-outs have helped on one hand. That may be less then five times depending on how often I've bashed my knuckles.
