 B2100 Question

Today I test drove (operated) a 1998 Kubota B2100 with 25 hours on it.It had the typical setup, 60" midmower, loader, HST, 4wdAsking $16,400BUT, it was a bear to steer, very little or no boost when stopped.(Isn't that the point of power steering)I've heard that the loader can rob the PS of hydraulic flow when in use. This was with the loader attached but not in motion. Is there something wrong with this tractor? If not what's the point of power steering. Thanks,Pete

 B2100 Question

Buyer beware!! Are you 100 percent certain that the tractor DOES have power steering??? Maybe that is why it's for sale?? Some people put a loader on a plain jane tractor (one without PS) and find that the loader adds so much weight that it is no longer a functional machine. I once saw an ad for an older Ford tractor. The ad stated emphatically "NO power steering" meaning that it was probably "a bear" to drive, as you put it. Or, it could just be that the B2100 you drive had power steering, but something was either broke, or not working right. Either way, you need to investigate this a lot more closely before you lay out any cash!!Keith

 B2100 Question

I test drove a B1700 about a week ago and it was fine with the loader. At a stand still I was able to turn the wheels easily back and forth with the loader on the tractor. All the B2100s have power steering. It sounds like that tractor may have a power steering problem. Have the seller check it out. good luck

 B2100 Question

Oh, I don't intend to mess with it.I was more wondering about if I bought a new one if this was normal. The New Holland dealer says their separate PS pump is better..He may not even be aware of the problem and I didn't bring it up.He says his wife uses it, but doesn't like it.Funny thing is, the tractor is under warrenty so it should be fixedunless it was damaged by abuse/misuse.Not something I want to mess with.

 B2100 Question

All the B2100's have power steering, it must be broken on the one you tried. I have a B2400 (same thing with a bigger engine) with loader. With the tractor not moving I can turn the steering wheel with one finger. I have never noticed a difference in loader operation or steering when using them together. The pump has plenty of capacity for both. The B1700 and B2100 have the same size pump as the B2400. The B1700 and B2400 have smaller loader cylinders than the B2400 so the need even less of the pump capacity.
