What Will Become of the L35?

I went to the official Kubota web site for more info on the L48 and found it hasn't been posted yet. I thought that was pretty lame, that a dealer (Carver) actually beats the manufacturer to the PR punch. Anyway, it's time to think about spring and maybe upgrading my equipment. I've seen some very attractive prices now on the L35 with backhoe and standard loader bucket which makes me wonder. Here were tractors advertised just this summer for $35K and now are down to $30K. I asked my local dealer what was the fate of the L35 and he said he didn't know, but he had more than ten in stock. I asked his service manager and he said that the L35 was probably going to be obsoleted, however, parts and service would continue as it does for all Kubota products. I like the L35 but would be more comfortable knowing its future before I put my cash on the Kubota barrel head. Anyone have the inside dope?

Ted the L-35 is still in the line up of Kubota. There was nothing mentioned about the unit being dropped at the introduction in New Orleans. The two tractors are different and they are different sizes so why would they stop building them.

Art, thank you for the details. We here in Connecticut often get confusing stories from our dealers. To what end I'm not sure, however, I think it may have to do with what is readily available and in stock. In Connecticut there is little chance to buy below MSRP, the dealers seem to stick to their price unless something is awry. Behavior like this sends up my antennae when all of a sudden I see what looks like a huge savings and get conflicting information from the same dealership. This message board is probably about the best thing that has happened to the owners of small tractors in my state. And, now that I know there are dealers who sell Kubotas for less than the typical MSRP, I may just look out of state for my next purchase. Thanks again.

Art is correct. The L35 is not going anywhere. The L48 parallels Kubota's typical approach to market penetration. They start small and then work their way up the horsepower ladder. As far as Carver having L48 info, they are just relaying what Kubota shared with all dealers in New Orleans. They will get their units the same time every other dealer will. As for Kubota pricing, it has kind of baffled me from region to region. Where we are located, if we tried to sell everything at MSRP, we would be out of business due to competitive pressure. In other regions, whether it be collusion, demand, or some other force, Kubota dealers can successfully sell product at a much higher price that approaches MSRP. That seems like a Deere mentality to me. To be honest, given Kubota's corporate tradition, I am kind of surprised that they allow large amounts of internet sales from some dealers. Even though Kubota Corporation requires all dealers to provide warranty service for equipment regardless of dealer origin (which I agree with), it seems like to me that predatory pricing from internet dealers could be a problem since these dealers probably cannot be responsible for updates and warranties on units that they sell hundreds of miles away. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think dealers should sell only into markets that they can potentially provide service to. Sure, you can UPS filters and updates, but that is not service in my opinion. But what do I know? Maybe I'm just an old fashioned Generation X-er. GO CATS!!
