Exhaust Modification On A Kubota L3240

My Kubota L3240 has the exhaust outlet on the left side, discharging almost directly across onto the left wheel area. This may seem to be OK to some, however when I am working in soft dirt, the left wheel does pick up enough dirt such that the exhaust causes the dirt to be sprayed upward and the dirt cloud comes back into my face.

It appears to me that if the exhaust is redirected slightly forward, and away from the left wheel vicinity, that this issue might be resolved. Is this something that others may have already devised a solution too? I am sure that I can get a machine shop or a company that specializes in exhaust systems to fabricate a piece for me, but has anyone found a simple, cheaper solution to redirect the exhaust flow?

By all means look to making a change. How easy? Depends.

My Yanmar pipe is a standard, round, common diameter, so it was easy enough to reroute it down low (to keep the outflow away from branches, brush piles being pushed, and me), using off-the-shelf bits. But my diesel Grasshopper, which has a similar problem to yours (as well as too much exhaust noise), ends in a non-standard oval with an integral heat shield, so I haven't figured how to connnect anything to that one.

On a few of our machines that are dedicated to specialized work we ran a pipe down long the block and had it dump out the bottom, but facing forward on a 45 deg. angle.

Don't forget though that the existing pipe goes out through an opening in the side panel, anything that sticks out further than the OEM system will hinder if not prevent opening that side of the engine cover.

Best of luck.

I want to thank all of you who provided advise and suggestions. I got the exhaust pipe dimensions and went to a local auto parts store. I purchased a ninety degree elbow and a can of high temp flat black paint, along with a pack of self tapping screws. I painted the elbow extension black and installed the elbow extension using the self tapping screws. The angle of the exhaust extension is pointed away fron the front tire now. I was able to get the angle such that I can still open the side panel.

LESSON LEARNED: The use of the ninety degree bend worked, however I found that it did create one problem. While I could turn the front tires to the right, I could not fully turn the front tires to their max limit to the right without causing the left front tire to rub on the ninety degree extension. I have since removed the ninety degree extension, and will live with dust and dirt (on some occasions) being blown up into my face.
