 Suggestions for a rototiller ( Kubota BX2360)

Dletizia,

You'll need a Category 0 (zero) 3-point tiller.

Category 0 tillers are fairly light. There isn't much weight to them. You'll need the weight in order to keep your tiller in the ground.

I would suggest getting a narrower unit, which will allow the weight of the tiller to work into the ground. Don't go too wide (maybe 42"Wink yeah right. If you get the optional offset hitch, you'll be able to cover one tire track.

You can find category 0 implements at NorthernTool.com. They are also available from many other suppliers.

See the link below.

Joel

 Suggestions for a rototiller ( Kubota BX2360)

All the BX models that I'm familiar with have a category I hitch. They usually have a narrower spread of the lift arms. My suggestion would be to visit tractory supply. They and lots others carry the King Kutter brand. King Kutter has models build primarily for these smaller tractors. They even paint them orange. Their normal color scheme is yellow. They are on the lower end of the spectrum for price, etc. They usually don't have a nice paint job, some rust already showing from the dealer. The larger units that I've used have taken a beating. I agree you may want to get a narrow unit, but I always like to cover my tracks.

I have no idea whether Kubota builds tillers or not, but perhaps checking with Kubota a dealer might be you best first step. Whether or not they build tillers a dealer can tell you what will/won't fit, what is too big, too heavy, just right, etc. I'd start there.

I think Kubota is offering Land Pride implements now.

We have been using up to 42" tillers when we sell them although I've seen up to 50 inch units on them.

The hitch on the newer BX's was raised and the standard cat 1 will now fit. The older models used what I refer to as Cat O-1 which is just another varient of 1-2 or 2-3 or 3-4 which just helps the manufacturers of equipment fit more applications. It isn't cat 0!

Do not be alarmed that the PTO shaft might need to be cut as that is common not only on tillers but most three point hitch equipment to ensure long drive train life.

The other thing to look at the the drive as many times when tilling we find a few stones and the slip clutch saves a lot of time and agrivation over changing shear pins.

There are variations on rotor drive, thats the least of the things that will keep a home owner needs to worry about! The two drives are chain as well as gear and my biggest concern is just making sure that they have good lubrication. The only way I've seen either fail was from lack of lube from a slow leak and no service!

Thank you ALL for your valuable input and responses. After much research, and viewings, I have decided to purchase locally a Land Pride RTR05 42" tiller (reverse rotation) at a VERY reasonable "off-season" price.

That's interesting to me that you bought the reverse rotation. I bought a Land Pride front rotation and came close to buying a reverse rotation instead that was sitting right beside it on the lot. I don't remember the price difference, but my intrest was that the reverse rotation might handle trash and old garden roots better.
Let us know after you've used it a time or two this spring. I don't remember anyone giving a first hand experience with one here. Frank.

Will do Frank, it'll be a while by the looks of the snow coming down at the moment! (May) Our soil is clay based. We used the 3 acres 30 years ago for a market garden. I felt the reverse rotation was the way to go. I am retired, so I've got all the time in the world to ride!

The reverse rotation is like tilling twice with one pass! It will give a raised bed till in loose conditions the first time across where you might have to go over two or three times to equal the job. As far as trash goes they are pulling it up from the bottom and often leaving it near the top far easier to clean. There are times with stones that they will cause more of an issue but they are far easier to pick and remove then hitting them every year and possibly breaking off the tines.
