 L2850 4 x4 drive problems

I cannot engage the 4x4. It was used about 3 weeks ago to push snow with no problems. I ususally just leave it 4x4 as the drive is steep. I heard no sounds of anything breaking. I checked the linkage and it is OK When moving the lever it is very easy & smooth wondering if something inside the trans. housing has broken? What should I look for next before tearing apart the machine

Kodiak,

I may not have the proper picture here for you. Please check my work. I have the proper tractor model, but your transmission may be different than the picture I'm posting here.

If you click on the following link, you'll see your shift lever and the parts pertaining to the front axle drive.

The lever (240) is attached to a pivot arm (180) and a roll pin (190).

This is just a pure guess, but I think you might find that either that pivot arm is broken, or the roll pin has either sheared off or fallen out.

Click on the link below. Take a look at the pictures.

Hope this helps.

Joel

Kodiak50,

I guess my next step would be to see if the front drive shaft isn't actually turning. If the front drive shaft is turning, then the problem would likely be found in the front axle.

Should you find that the front drive shaft isn't turning, then the problem is likely located in the drive box I posted a link to earlier.

Joel

Yes I agree with you. A little more exploring with the help of the pics I hope to find the problem
