 bx2200 PTO problem

I have a 4 year old BX2200 that I purchased new. I have 4 of 7 level acres that I mow with a 60" deck. My only other implement is a tiller that is used twice a year.
Back in late may, I had cut about an acre and took a short break. When I started to cut again, the underbelly PTO would not completely engage. The dealer ship said they were a week behind, but to get some lithium spray and try to free it.It freed up to where it would sit in position, but not fully engage. My nieghbor and I took it to the dealer and they said it would be 10 days before they could get to it, but it was probably an easy fix. TWELVE weeks later, it is now fixed and the diagnosis was a broken PTO shaft. When we dropped it off, the dealer said that that would be the "worst case scenario" and THAT would take three weeks to fix. I asked what would cause that to happen after 600 hrs of being a "glorified mower" with a rare garden tilling. The dealer said "shifting on the fly" or "faulty machining". The dealer says now that it was a broken PTO shaft and that MANY parts ($1000 worth)had to be replaced. The tractor was recently paid of and went out of warranty. The total bill is $1700. My land is in shambles after no tractor for 3 months. I emailed kubota. They responded saying that someone from Kubota would contact me. When I picked up the bill (notice....NOT TRACTOR) the dealer placed a call to the regional Kubota rep and left him a message. He said that he would probably call me back in a few days.....NOTHING. Am I wrong to "smell a rat" here? Does anyone know how that I can reach SOMEONE in authority at Kubota?

The dealer said he had them, but I'm not sure what I'd be looking at. Can I tell if it was a faulty part that failed? Heck, I sprang for this tractor, rather than a zero turn or something cheaper so that I would'nt have this kind of issue. That's 15% of the purchase price just for cutting my yard and having a family garden. I can't believe that the dealer NEVER called me and now noone from Kubota will. I'm thinking about making a sign that says so and standing across the street from the dealership.I'd love to hear from someone with Kubota to see if twelve weeks (all summer) is within their standard......and my yard is unbearable.
