Just got a used 4630 GST W cab--do all GST have the shuttle---
when I go from one gear to another I have a hesitation, is this normal--it has the same hesitation as the shuttle when going from foward to reverse--

First off, welcome!!!

The model designation 'GST' is an acronym for Glide Shift Transmission, so yes, if it says GST in the model it has that transmission.

The hesitation you are feeling is actually the transmission changing gears, much like the way an automatic transmission in a car or truck shifts, but the tractor shifts much slower.

A GST transmission is basically just a standard gear tranny, except the hydraulics actuate the clutch, shift the gears, then let the clutch back out for you automatically.

Best of luck.

If the GST IS A GEARED TRANS. Then when I turn the tractor off in gear, why does it move

It shouldn't, unless you tried to shift just as you shut down, or selected 'N' on the shuttle shifter handle.

Quoting from Kubota's own information ..."The GST is a hydraulically shifted mechanical transmission designed to increase your productivity."

None of mine move when parked in gear.

Best of luck.

all gst trans will move when parked and motor off---you need to set the parking brake and chock the wheels especially if you're on any kind of an incline. mine scares me to death sometimes when on a hill and wanting to get off and open a gate. don't ever think it will stay still just because it's in a gear!!!!! I know one of these times the parking brake is gonna fail!!! it has slipped before; probably because it wasn't applied correctly due to being in a hurry which is a big no no. and to take this a little bit farther don't ever let it coast down a hill w/o it being in gear!!! just mho. L3130GST goin on 800 hrs. w/no problems yet.

CharlieK or whoever. I would have sworn that a GST was a hydrostatic trans., that is a hydralic motor in front of a manual transmission with 3 gears. O well, my question is has anyone had a GST come out of gear on an incline? I live on a 30+% grade hill and go up it from time to time to plant trees, etc. The other day while going down a short 20+grade it came out of gear and it was a wild ride for a couple of seconds. If the same would occur on the long 30+% hill it would kill me and the tractor due to the length. I'm going to ask a dealer but a better source is owners. I may have not had it in the gear all the way I am hoping. John 70

john 70--post is over a year old but you have a good point-I live on a hill in bullitt co. kentucky and have a paved drive w/gate half way up. just the other day I thought 'bout murf's comments and tried to hold the 3130GST in gear w/o brakes applied--no way--tractor WILL roll--you have to apply brake to keep it still. and yes if you are going down a steep hill and accidently throw the gear shift lever in neutral (which i have done) it will scare you. tractors are dangerous--each one is different-it's critical you familarize yourself w/it and keep alert!

Charliek -Thanks for the response. However, mine came out of gear on its own and I did not accidently take it out. . The only question is did I have it all the way in(centered on the white mark)or just partially in? If it was all the way in then I have a problem and won't be going up any steep inclines until I understand if the tractor does slip out even when on the white mark. Years ago I was standing on a draw bar of a A John Deere and my 9 year old son was driving and while pulling a heavey load of corn uphill the damn thing came out of gear and started to roll back. Everything turned out ok but now I do have a lot of respect for tractors. Thanks John
