MMM question; Position 4 vs. Top lock- much difference?

Hey guys,
My BX2350 has a dial for setting mower height, it has a position called "Top" and then several positions down from that from "4" down to "1" (1 being shortest cut).

At the dealer, and on delivery, my mower dial would go into "Top" (for locking the deck in a high position while using the 3 point hitch hydraulicsm which as you know also run the mower lift). But now I'm not able to get the dial turned past 4 (to Top) for the life of me. I mean, I'm really turning it, or trying, with alot of force and it won't budge.

Ideas on something I might be doing wrong?

Also, is 4 that much lower whereby, if Top is broken, I can't still lock the deck in 4 for most non-MMM applications? I was using the loader last weekend and lowered the tiller on the 3pnt pretty low, and yet the deck stayed up pretty high...locked at 4 position.
But does anyone know how much higher than "4" the Top position locks the deck? Is it really worth it, if the knob is broken for Top postion, to get it fixed?

Mike in NC

Mike,

My response may be too obvious and you may have already tried this but you did not mention it.

Lift your hydraulics all the way up, and then try to change your dial. If you leave it on 4 overnight, the MMM and your 3pt will gradually lower and when the MMM lowers to your mower setting the weight prevents you from moving the dial until you raise it all the way up again.

As to the MMM not seeming to lower beyond the 4 setting, check your hydraulic governor. There should be a dial that allows the hydraulics a fast release or slow release. If it set for too slow of a release, your hydraulics may not go beyond a certain point.

Just some thoughts...

Brian

Brian, thanks for your reply. Your idea about the hydraulic speed control makes sense. I'm going to try opening her up all the way next time I'm on the tractor. I have the valve closed about half way always, just because I have a fear of totally dropping the tiller or boxblade hard. But I'll readjust it just for this MMM operation and see if it helps. Thanks,
Mike

 MMM question

Mike,
The position control knob is nothing more that stepped surface, sort of like a spiral staircase, that prevents the mower linkage from lowering past which ever 'step' is turned to be in the way of the linkage. Did that make any sense? The likely cause of not being able to get it to the 'top' position, is that the deck linkage isn't going high enough to allow that step to turn under the linkage. Try holding the 3 PT lever in the up position to make sure it's all the way up, then try turning the knob. Also, have you adjusted the deck at all? I think the adjustment linkages will allow you to make it so it won't go all the way up any more. The manual explains that part of it, just not very clearly.
David
