Kubota L48 loader not taking grease

One of my zerk fittings is not taking grease and it is not the zirk fitting. It is located on the left lower boom on the front end loader. Is the bearing seized? any help would be appreciated.

Two things could be to blame, both are easy to diagnose and / or fix.

Most likely is that the grease zerk happens to sit in a spot, that together with the position of the loader, means that the grease just can't flow well, try moving the loader to a different position and try to grease it again.

If that doesn't work, it could be that the zerk itself is clogged up, it happens. In that case you have two options, one is to try a more powerful gun, or a special high pressure device which you put on the zerk and tap with a hammer, it creates a sudden burst of VERY high pressure. If that's not it, or you don't have the right gear, just replace the zerk, it's a 2 second job, just be sure the one you have is a match in size and thread.

Best of luck.

How do you know it's not the zerk? Did you replace it?

Sometimes the grease gun tip won't grip arond and seal the zerk heador the check ball inside the zerk is rusted closed. Simply use a small steel or brass punch to push the ball in to release it.

And most likley it's not a "bearing" per se; it's likely a bronze bushing. To see if it's seized, you need to remove what ever keeps the pivot in place, cycle the loader a few times and see if it moves. If it doesn't put some heat to it with a propane torch and try it again being careful not to ruin the paint. If that doesn't work, with it still hot, spray some penetrating oil around the pivot to free it up and let it sit a day or so. Something to keep in mind is if the pivot is seized on the end of a hydraulic cylinder, you literally snap off the end of the cylinder. Ask me how I know So Sad

If you decide to pound on the pivot, be careful not mushroom the shaft.

DRB, some of those type of sleeve bearings are drilled for the grease to leave the zerk fitting into a grooved area to spread the grease. It might be possible it has moved enough the hole does not line up but you would have to see if that is the case. It also could just be dried out grease in the sleeve blocking new grease. That is where the tool Murf pointed out helps. If the fitting is not a press in, take it out and my suggestion would be a small drill bit turning it by hand to twist it through if dried grease. No way am I suggesting this to you but on my disk I had to redrill to get a couple of the fittings to accept grease. You run risk of bearing and shaft damage doing so. If you must go that way disassemble if at all possible. I guess it is possible wear of a sleeve bearing could produce a metal burr that could also seal the grease fitting hole. kt

First, be sure to try moving the loader as Murf's first suggestion is. Play with it to get what ever slack there is on that shaft away from the grease fitting giving it what ever clearance there is possible.
