Kubota B2150 Starting After Running Out of Diesel

For 12 Years or more I operated a Kubota 2150B Diesel. I never ran out of fuel, because I remembered looking at the manual about needing to prime the fuel line. Someone else ran the tractor today, and ran out of fuel, and now it will not start. Of course I can't not find the manual...

Can anyone tell me how to prime the fuel line.

You might be able to just hold the starter until it starts. I have had good succes doing this with my New Holland equipment.

Since you're there, remove the sediment bowl and clean/replace the filter.

Short of keep trying to start it look for the injection pump where the injector lines come from and look for a small bleeder bolt, on the very top, loosen it a few turns and fuel should flow out (if you did remove the sediment bowl give it time to refill). It should bubble at first then run clear. When it's clear tighten the bleeder.

Note: What I do sometimes is open the bleeder bolt, then remove the fuel filler cap and using your mouth blow into the fule tank to pressurize it. Hold it for just about 5 seconds and you should have filled the filter and bled the injector.

Note that on larger machines and trucks with large fuel tanks, or electric or mechanical lift pumps this method works too but instead of using your mouth, if you like, use an air compressor hose and nozzle with a wet rag wrapped around the hose's nozzle to make a decent seal.

The engine should start up soon.

Tried starting it for some time. Even found a valve on the filter writing in Japanese. Switched it a couple time while trying to start without luck. The exmark diesel zero turn has a primer under the seat. I quess I am going to have to find the manual.

Is the "switch" in fact a "valve" as in "on/off"? Moving that back and forth won't do anything if it is a valve---so long as you leave it in the "on" position.

Primer button---and what did you do with it?

You can use WD40 as a starting aid. It provides lubrication to the top of cylinders.

It may get you going just make sure the hand throttle is wide open to allow max fuel flow to purge the system.

Buttonwood... I would call a kubota dealer, I just got a refund on my 28hp kubota mower and remembered that the dealer told me 3times to not run out of fuel, that it was a pain to get it started once out of fuel. Think you need to bleed the air out of the lines. I just cant remember the sequence you need to do...You can also search online how to start diesel out of fuel. Best of luck

Don't know whether this would be the same procedure for your tractor, but here's what the manual say for a 2004 3130HST. (I've done it several times with no problem.)

"1. Fill the fuel tank with fuel, and open the fuel cock."
"2. Open the air vent cock on the fuel injection pump." (on my model this is a little plastic knob about the size of a nickel. my manual has a little picture showing where it is located)
"3. Start the engine and run for about 30 seconds and then stop the engine."
"4. Close the air vent cock."

Once I open the air vent cock my tractor has always started after maybe 5 or 10 seconds of cranking. The one time it ran out of fuel and I tried to start it without following these steps (it was my first time), I never got it started until I broke down and read the instructions.

Good luck.
