 Kubota L3400 transmission vs. Grand L 3240

what is a difference between 3400 transmission and a Grand 3240 FST transmission??

/ Is the 3240 FST fully synchro transmission easy to shift.. means no grinding at all??
Or, as my Kubota dealer says, 3400 and 3240 are the same gear trannies....therefore, no shifting difference??/

Thanks,
Joe

The 3240 or fst is a lot easier to shift then the 3400 will. I can't say you will never grind a gear with it but they are quite easy to shift.

I don't know all of your uses but the independent Pto has been a stronger unit in the grand L-series then the standard units.
When the tractor's used mostly for back forty work the the standard has been a great value but as the tractor hits into the front yard with a few options then some of the standard features of the Grand series makes a better fit for the long run.

I think both models have their place and used appropriately they both can grate between ranges but the shuttle on the grand L can be a nice feature if a lot of forward reverse work is being done. The shuttles are normally used from reverse to forward the most, when filling the bucket or dumping normally the clutch is used to be in the exact location needed.

For me, it will be mostly loader use, clearing the woods, replanting spruces etc.
The grinding is what I complain about. I had zero tractor experience, and this should be a MAJOR issue. What are the salesmen for? if you do lots of loader work, don't buy it, THAT should've been an expected advise. Too much to ask, I know. Their commission is what matters, nothing else.
I was hesitating between G3240 and 3400. Smaller a lighter 3400 was a decisive factor. Nothing else.I have a bigger loader/from G3240/ on it anyway, so I specifically told them what I intent to use it for.
I did my own research, but one finds out what is going on when is too late.
I don't mind the gear. But grinding when shifting bothers me. I am affraid to shift, since I don't know what to expect. Is it going to be smoot.... or what.
When I went back to discuss this problem , the dealer told me that 3240 dear IS THE SAME TRANNY?????
Is the FST /fully synchronized transmission/ shifting also so difficult. Is there a difference between those 2 transmissions. I believe there is. According to my dealer, no, no difference.
BTW., they sound like I was makes the whole thing up.

Well, I bougt Kubota 3400 and it was a mistake. I hate the thing. It is brand new./12 hours/ I stopped using it, it will go.

Joe

It takes quite a bit to learn all there is about the tractors. I myself find I enjoy learning the quirks and find many just listening to the people that come through the front door.
To sound knowledgeable is a good thing for a salesmen and it is hard to find someone that is well versed about tractors and there are many things that are learned here that is more then any sales class or multiple of them that I've attended.
Those transmissions are different!
